Beautiful Diamond Shapes for Your Engagement Ring
When choosing an engagment ring, diamond engagement rings are the most traditional and classic piece of jewellery. However, there is so much more to a diamond ring than meets the eye; one particular characteristic being the shape of the diamond.
Here are five dazzling diamond shapes to consider when finding your perfect engagement ring.
5 | Round Cut Diamond
The round cut diamond is by far the most popular choice for diamond engagement rings. It is generally the preferred brillance cut as the shape greatly enhances the brilliance of the diamond. If you’re looking for a diamond engagement ring that really sparkles, consider a round cut.
4 | Princess Cut Diamond
The second most popular cut of diamond for engagement rings is the princess cut, also known as the square brilliant cut. It is a relatively new cut of diamond which has only been around since the 1960’s. Traditionally the princess cut is a square shape with pointed corners.
3 | Marquise Cut Diamond
The marquise shape dates all the way back to the 18th century where French King Louis XV commissioned his jewellers to create a diamond that matched the smile of his mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour. Choose this cut if you are looking to maximise the perceived surface area of your diamond. The marquise cut (or navette cut, meaning “little boat”) tends to look larger than it really is due to the long and narrow shape, pointed at both ends. It is a very elegant shape for an engagement ring that stands out from other, more common cuts.
2 | Oval Cut Diamond
As was seen on Heidi Klum’s hand in our previous post, Our Favourite 6 Unique Celebrity Engagement Rings, the oval cut is a happy medium between a round brilliant and a pear shape. It particularly works well to elongate the fingers while offering a less common shape.
1 | Radiant Cut Diamond
The radiant cut beautifully combines the dazzling characterstics such as depth, fire and brilliance of the round cut while offering the square or rectangular shape of a princess cut. Cropped corners are the signature of this cut which is known for it’s radiant light refraction.
